scenario 1
A big week has just ended, you fall asleep early on the couch. When you wake up, neck pain prevents you from turning your head. Like everyone else, your first instinct is to tell yourself that it will pass. However, after a few days, the pain persists, it even bothers you more and more.
Scenario 2
You do your little morning jog to start the day of the right foot and BAM! You turn your ankle in a hole on the sidewalk. You suddenly fall to the ground and a sharp pain hits you. You hobble home your heart beating in your ankle.
In both cases, what to do?
Several options are available to you.
You hesitate between going to see your family doctor or going to the walk-in clinic. This decision may allow you to be prescribed tests, medication and probably be referred to a physiotherapist.
Another choice: go directly to a physiotherapist because your friend told you about the good care she received during her last injury. Can you go to physiotherapy without a doctor’s prescription?
Luckily for you, the hours planned to wait in the emergency room are useless. Since the early 1990s, private physiotherapy care has been direct access, meaning that anyone can consult without a medical prescription.
During your first visit without a prescription at Physio Plateau, a precise and detailed assessment will be carried out, which will lead to a diagnosis in physiotherapy. Your therapist will be able to explain the origin of your pain and work out a treatment plan with you. Also, if he deems it appropriate to take certain medications, he can refer you to your pharmacist or to the doctor if necessary. The same goes for the prescription of medical imaging. Rest assured, it is rather rare for medication or an imaging test to be necessary. So in the vast majority of cases you save yourself from a visit to the doctor.
However, if you have insurance, be aware that a few private insurance companies still require a medical prescription to make a reimbursement. Do your checks beforehand to avoid any unpleasant surprises.
