Physiotherapy for climbers

To climb higher.

By physiotherapists from Physio Plateau.

Physiotherapy specific to climbing

Many new climbing gyms have opened in recent years and the popularity of this activity continues to grow. Unfortunately, the number of climbing-related injuries is also increasing. This is why at Physio Plateau, physiotherapists offer care adapted to injuries specific to this sport. Of course, all of our physiotherapists are qualified to treat general sports injuries. On the other hand, if you are looking for specific advice on prevention, performance or optimization in climbing, this service is for you! Whether bouldering or route climbing, indoors or outdoors, Physio Plateau will help you send your project!

What to expect from your first session?

During your first physiotherapy visit for a climbing assessment, the physiotherapist will ask you several questions to understand your activity level, habits, goals, and symptoms.

Next, a series of tests will be performed to determine, among other things, your strength, flexibility and motor control. Subsequently, the climbing assessment will begin with taking different finger strength measurements on various types of grips. Pull-up control will also be analyzed.

The therapist will take a moment to explain the results of the assessment to you. He will offer you a treatment plan including training adaptations and possibly a personalized exercise program as well as other therapeutic modalities. Several prevention tips related to the practice of climbing will be given to you. Follow-ups will be suggested if necessary.

To consider before the first visit:

  • Make sure you have clothes that expose your shoulders.
  • If you have a portable hangboard, bring it.
  • If the injury is to the foot or ankle, bring your climbing shoes.
  • Many climbing-related injuries can be treated directly with sports physiotherapy. Once your injury is under control, a specific climbing assessment could be started to optimize performance.
