[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_column_text css=””]The first historical reference of physiotherapy would be attributed to Per Henrik Ling in Sweden in 1813. He practiced gymnastics for the sick including massages and manipulations. The term first appeared in scientific literature in its German form in 1851 and in English in 1894 in the Montreal Medical Journal<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The profession gained momentum at the beginning of the 20th century because of two memorable events: the poliomyelitis epidemic, which created partial paralysis in those affected, and the First World War, which left many soldiers and civilians injured.<\/p>\n

The rise of physiotherapy as a medical profession is launched.<\/strong>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=”In Qu\u00e9bec” font_container=”tag:h2|font_size:20px|text_align:left” use_theme_fonts=”yes” css=”” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Freadaptation.umontreal.ca%2Fecole%2Fhistorique%2F|title:Au%20Qu%C3%A9bec”][vc_column_text css=””]With<\/span> us, the practice <\/span>officially<\/span> appeared<\/span> with<\/span> the inauguration of the <\/span>School<\/span> of <\/span>Physiotherapy<\/span> and <\/span>Occupational<\/span> Therapy<\/span> affiliated<\/span> with<\/span> the <\/span>Faculty<\/span> of <\/span>Medicine<\/span> in 1954<\/strong> at the <\/span>University<\/span> of <\/span>Montreal<\/span>. The <\/span>Bachelor<\/span> of Science in <\/span>Physiotherapy<\/span> has been <\/span>awarded<\/span> since<\/span> 1969. The profession is supervised by the OPPQ<\/a> since its creation in 1974. More <\/span>recently<\/span>, <\/span>the <\/span>finishing<\/span> cohort<\/span> of 2011 <\/span>was<\/span> the first to <\/span>graduate<\/span> with<\/span> the <\/span>mandatory<\/span> Master’s<\/span> in <\/span>Physiotherapy<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”40px”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_text_separator title=”WHAT DOES A PHYSIO DO ?” css=””][vc_column_text css=””]Physiotherapy<\/span> is<\/span> a discipline <\/span>that<\/span> aims<\/span> to <\/span>improve<\/span> your<\/span> physical<\/span> abilities<\/span> regardless<\/span> of the <\/span>reason<\/span> for the <\/span>deficiencies<\/span><\/strong>.<\/strong> It <\/span>encompasses<\/span> several<\/span> fields<\/span> of practice <\/span>such<\/span> as <\/span>geriatrics<\/span>, <\/span>pediatrics<\/span>, <\/span>neurological<\/span> rehabilitation<\/span>, cardio-<\/span>respiratory<\/span> rehabilitation<\/span> and <\/span>musculoskeletal<\/span> rehabilitation<\/span>. The latter <\/span>is<\/span> the best <\/span>known<\/span> to the public and the <\/span>most<\/span> widespread<\/span> in <\/span>private<\/span> clinics<\/span>. <\/span>Musculoskeletal<\/span><\/strong> care <\/span>targets<\/span>, <\/span>among<\/span> other<\/span> things<\/span>, <\/span>problems<\/span> with<\/span> bones<\/span><\/strong>, ligaments, tendons, muscles, nerves and joints<\/strong>. <\/span>Whether<\/span> the pain or <\/span>impairment<\/span> appeared<\/span> insidiously<\/span> or <\/span>following<\/span> an accident, <\/span>physiotherapy<\/span> is<\/span> the right discipline for <\/span>your<\/span> problem<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row equal_height=”yes” content_placement=”middle” _et_uniqid=”et_custom_uniqid_new_684340e3063ac”][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”4358″ img_size=”full” css=””][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_column_text css=””]<\/p>\n
