Pediatric Rehabilitation in Physiotherapy

This pediatric physiotherapy service is intended for children from 0 to 18 years old.
From birth, some children can present some physical challenges that require specialized assistance. Because children aren’t mini-adults, some interventions need to be adapted to their needs at every stage of their development.

Our physiotherapists are trained to address most orthopedic conditions in children aged 5 and older.
However, our physiotherapists who have expertise in pediatrics have the necessary skills to assess and treat specific conditions in babies and young children, such as congenital torticollis, plagiocephaly, pediatric orthopedic deformities, as well as delays in motor development.

The purpose of pediatric physiotherapy is to optimize children’s motor development to promote the acquisition of new motor skills.

What happens during an appointment?

It starts with some questions that will guide the physiotherapy assessment that will follow.
Some questions might address your pregnancy, the birth and your child’s development in their first days, months or years of life.

Afterwards, an assessment of the different motor skills, as well as some tests specific to your child, will be performed.

Finally, the physiotherapist will explain the results of the assessment and will be able to answer any questions you might have. A personalized treatment plan, tailored to your child’s age and stage of development, will be created in order to promote their development.

What to consider before the initial visit

At the moment, only problems linked to congenital torticollis (< 1 year), plagiocephaly, pediatric orthopedic deformities and isolated delays in motor development will be addressed.

Dress your child in comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the area that will be examined.

Have in hand the history of medical exams/test results or ongoing investigations. Additionally, the vaccination booklet will give pertinent information regarding the birth.
